Spirituality & Career Growth

I am happily successful, I love my job and embrace all the frills that comes with it. I owe my growth to spiritual alignment. You sure may wonder, what’s wrong with this girl? Do I even read further?

Read no further if you feel spirituality & success cannot cross paths, even after reading below statements.

Jay Shetty lived the life of a monk for a brief period of his life before becoming The Jay Shetty we all know of.

Steve Jobs visited Kainchi Dham, the ashram of Neem Karoli Baba that influenced his spiritual journey & his design philosophy of Apple.

We all are experiencing the feats of Virat Kohli post his marriage, post getting his spiritual beliefs right.

Oh! I am not saying that spirituality alone helps me to get my work-life right, but there is this sense of fulfilment, focus & strong work ethics that just comes naturally within me.

My spiritual master Guru Mahatria has coined this phrase ‘happily successful’ that almost looks like a paradox to most of us, it felt the same to me too, initially. So, I understand.

I am acing at my workspace on the strength of my strengths. An IT professional and a writer at heart, living a life of This AND That and still evolving at both fronts. If I had to talk about 3 aspects that has expedited my career growth, it has to be these… And ironically, neither of these are technical aspects, that’s the bare minimum and we all got to nail it, however, beyond a point we all win over our attitudes.

Inter-personal skills

I bet I got lucky here because I love to write, communicate, play with words and I keep growing on this front with the help of my mentor Megha Bajaj. Yet, I do know I get this upper-hand over my peers because I am good with my inter-personal skills. We all got to face our clients as we scale up the career ladder, discuss requirements, negotiate, raise queries, plan, curate presentations even before we start actual coding!

Now imagine, there are 2 peers, both are good technically and one has fear of communication and the other just flows with words, who will be preferred? And now also because of my spiritual alignment, I tend to be more empathetic, patient and understanding if the discussions take longer or in case of any kind of gaps. It simply eases out the process for almost anyone I work with.

Team Spirit

Most of my peers got stagnant in their careers not because of their technical limitedness but because of their attitudes. There are people who are easier to work with and a few who create noise more than actual work!

How primal and beautiful it is to work in collaboration, to support our team, to help them if they’re stuck, understand their weaknesses and be all the more supportive. It’s okay to stretch a little to help our mates if we want to go far and fast (in our career ladder). Of all the accolades, one of the best complements I have received is from my Senior Manager from the previous organisation GeP Solutions, ‘The gates of this organisation are always open for you’. As though all my team-mates had told one thing in unison, ‘One of the easiest and helpful person to work with’. I smile thinking of that moment even today.

Solution Finder

Well, my Spiritual Master, Guru Mahatria puts it this way, ‘Let the problems come from anywhere but the solution come from me.’ I reiterate this statement in my head every time I am stuck with a problem that takes longer to be solved. And that’s one attitude because of which I am preferred for any experimental/ R&D work.

I seek help, I go out of my way to ensure that I am the source of solution. It helps, it really works wonders, not just for my organisation but for my subconscious mind too. It’s like reiterating to myself, ‘I can do anything I set my intention to’. And well, appreciation from my organisation just feels like a bonus.

So much of my attitudinal shifts are because I absorbed these basics from my Guru through my meditation practices. Our attitudes in the moments of chaos at workplace defines how peacefully we handle the storm. We have an anchor to hold onto that we can align to on moments we find ourselves misaligned.

I hope we all find our anchors, not losing ourselves in the name of growth. Certainly, we all will grow, but how happily, peacefully & fast we grow depends on our attitudes, work-ethics & spiritual alignment.
